The Emerging Korea: Why U.S. Companies Focus on Korea for New Opportunities The recent economic slowdown has shifted the balance in the global marketplace. While countries in the western hemisphere have experienced a decline in their economic growth, China and other countries in the Far East, notably South Korea, have continued to report a robust gain in their GDPs. As part of its mission to help the business community to stay competitive, we are pleased to provide outreach assistance to the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (“KOTRA Chicago”) for an investment forum: “The Emerging Korea: Why U.S. Companies Focus on Korea for New Opportunities?” This event will be held on Friday, September 10, at the Four Seasons Hotel, 120 East Delaware Place, Chicago. The Forum will provide participants with the opportunities to meet with high-level U.S. and Korean government and business leaders. Leading Korean and U.S. companies including LG and Caterpillar will make presentation regarding their strategies and opportunities for U.S. companies. The focus of the forum is on parts and materials for the automobile, shipbuilding, IT, display, semi-conductor and other; and alternative energy including solar, wind, and bio-fuel. South Korea is able to sustain an economic growth despite that it is a relatively small country with a population of only 39 million and is heavily dependent on trade. The migration of South Korea to a technology based nation has shown how certain countries can find their niches and stay competitive. China, the world’s manufacturing center, bought 17.7% of all South Korea’s export. I would like to invite you to this extraordinary event. Participants can also request one-on-one meetings with representatives from KOTRA, select government officials, and executives of Korean companies, which will immediately follow lunch. There is no cost for attending; however, due to limited spaces, not all requests for attending could be accommodated. Please contact Mai Hoang at 312-368-9029; email at maihoang@usccc.org; or through fax at 312-368-9922.
