On behalf of the whole organization of U.S.-China Chamber of Commerce, we wish you Happy Holidays! May this joyful season bring you good health, good fortune, and prosperity!

We would also like to show our deep appreciation for your support and look forward to working with you in the year of 2010 and beyond.

To further our missions, our organization is taking several initiatives in this New Year, and I am pleased to share with you the following:

Women's Executives Sub-Committee.

The purpose is to recognize the contribution of women's executives to U.S.-China business and to promote the involvements of women in U.S.-China trade and investment activities. While the Committee intends to become a platform for networking, the focus will be 100% on business issues. It is open to both men and women. The first organizational meeting will be in mid January 2010 with a plan to host an inaugural program in March. All programs will have two primary elements: education and networking. If you are interested in joining the Sub-Committee, please click on the following link: Women's_Executive_Questionnaire, download, complete, mark "Confidential," and return the Questionnaire to my attention no later than January 5, 2010.

Young Ambassador Program

The purpose is to provide pre-college students, preferably juniors who are about to apply for college admissions, with cross border business and culture experience between the U.S. and China. This is to be accomplished through a combination of educational sessions, cultural exchange, and internships by taking advantage of the enormous network of USCCC. Unlike other programs, USCCC Young Ambassador Program will emphasize on the business aspects, and all participants will have the unique opportunity to intern in China. They will also meet with government officials, business executives, and other young leaders, with whom they will build friendship for many years to come. The program will be run between six to eight weeks in July and August and will cost about US$5,500 including international roundtrip and domestic China airfares per participant. It will start in Chicago and conclude in Beijing. Participants will be mentored by senior level executives and professionals involved in international business. Although the program is under design, it will comprise of:

Orientation and briefing; cross cultural and intensive basic language training; visit to a U.S. factory to get familiar with the U.S. safety and work environment
Internship in a Chinese (primarily light assembly for safety reason) factory
Visit to the rural areas and the farms (certain restrictions apply due to health concern)
Meeting with local students in China
Short term study at local Chinese universities
Short term stay with a local Chinese family
Banquets with government officials and business leaders
Visit of the Shanghai World Expos 2010
Tour of the Great Wall; Forbidden City before returning to the U.S.

At this time, two of our Directors, Mark Zolno, Esq., Chairman of Customs Practice, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP; and Tony Dickel, Chairman of MRI China; have agreed to serve as mentors. Without a doubt, more executives will join in to volunteer for this program. Still in formation, the following cities have agreed to provide and/or host the Young Ambassadors: Changzhou; Xiaoshan (Hangzhou); Fenghua and Beilun (Ningbo); and Gao Bei Dian (Beijing).

If your family or someone whom you know is interested in this program either as a Young Ambassador or as a Mentor, , please click on the following link: Young_Ambassador_Program_Participants.pdf, download, complete, mark "Confidential," and return the Questionnaire to my attention no later than January 31, 2010.
