17th Annual Chinese New Year Dinner

Please save the date of Friday, February 7, 2014 for our 17th Anniversary Chinese New Year Dinner to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Horse.  The program is to be held in Chinatown, Chicago (the venue will be confirmed shortly); it starts at 4:30 P.M. and concludes about 9:00 P.M. Fees for this special celebration are $60 for members and $80 for non-members.

 

Dr. Bill Testa, Vice President and Director of Regional Research of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, will address the state of the economy, which will be followed by a violin performance by Hannah White.  Hannah, 13 will be accompanied by her two talented brothers, Jonah 16, pianist and Joshua 14, pianist.

 

Dr. Testa has written widely in the areas of economic growth and development, the Midwest economy and state–local public finance. He directed a comprehensive long-term study and forecast of the Midwest economy, Assessing the Midwest Economy: Looking Back for the Future, and has fashioned a series of conferences on school reform.  This will mark the 14th consecutive appearance of Dr. Testa at our annual event.

 

Hannah White, has been described as, "... a dose of hope for the future ... pure talent approaching perfection ... transport you to a magical place ... a southeastern Wisconsin resident and a national violin virtuoso" by Milwaukee Journal's Paul Hayes, retired and Pulitzer Prize Winner.  Hannah made her first solo debut at seven, and she has been featured as soloist with many orchestras including Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Oistrach Symphony Orchestra and many others.  She was the youngest member for two orchestras all three years.  At nine, Hannah was awarded a gold plaque from Kettle Morraine Music Teachers Association for achieving the highest possible rating three consecutive years.  Hannah has won First Place at numerous competitions.  She is the recipient of merits scholarships from many organizations and has been offered full scholarships to further her study from some of the world’s most prestigious academies.

 

Both Jonah White and Joshua White are currently studying at the Music Institute of Chicago. Jonah won a Gold Prize at the Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association and a Silver Prize at the Chicago Area Music Teachers Association in 2011.  He also received First Prize in the Frank Stehlik's Musichorale Music Competition in 2012.  Joshua White won the Silver Prize at the Chicago Area Music Teachers Association in 2011, and he received First Place at the 32nd Annual Roberta Savler Piano Contest in Chicago in 2012.

 

We have also invited the Chinese Consulate in Chicago to participate and make a special remark in this event.
