To recognize the increasing roles of and unique challenges for executives in U.S.-Asia Pacific business, as well as the importance and benefits of diversity to a business organization, U.S.-China Chamber of Commerce held its Executives Forum.  We assembled a group of senior level female executives in a variety of industries, including manufacturing and government, to share their unique experiences in operating internationally.  Speakers include: Teresa Hack, President, Channel Products; Yen-Jung Lin, International Sourcing Director, Briggs & Stratton Corporation; Alice Gao, Senior Vice President, Head of Commercial Banking, ICBC USA N.A., and Kumiko Watanabe, Partner, Grant Thornton LLP. 

 

Speakers

 

  • Teresa Hack, President, Channel Products – Ms. Hack serves as President of Channel Products, a manufacturer of innovative ignition components and systems, safety controls, and piezo-ceramic elements for use in a multitude of industries.  Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, it also operates a factory in Guangdong, China. Ms. Hack also serves on the Board of Directors for a leading outdoor furnishings retailer and on the Cleveland State Monte Ahuja College of Business Visiting Committee.

  • Yen-Jung Lin, Director of International Sourcing, Briggs & Stratton Corporation – Ms. Lin leads a number of teams to locate and qualify over 100 suppliers around the world including Taiwan, China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, India, South America, and Mexico. They achieved $10,000,000 cost savings in 2009 and accounted for 26% of the company’s overall spending with low cost country suppliers.

  • Alice Gao, Senior Vice President, Head of Commercial Banking, ICBC USA N.A. – Ms. Gao is responsible for leading a multi-functional team to succeed on a global scale by achieving sales and profit targets for ICBC USA, N.A., a subsidiary of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, one of the world’s largest financial institutions.  She has received numerous honors and was named the “Distinguished Aluma” by University of New Haven. 

  • Kumiko Watanabe, Partner, National Leader of Japan Business Group, Grant Thornton LLP – Ms. Watanabe is the national leader of the Japan Business Group, through which she provides audit, tax and advisory services to Japanese inbound companies. She is also an International Tax partner in Grant Thornton’s International Services group and has significant experience in income tax provision, transfer pricing, R&D studies and IRS audit support.

 

 

 

20th Annual Chinese New Year Dinner: Celebrating the Arrival of the Year of the Rooster

After the Women Executives Forum, we hosted our 20th Annual Chinese New Year Dinner to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Rooster.  Over 100 people shared a 10 course traditional Chinese dinner to observe this important tradition.  The Honorable Hong Lei, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China joined in this celebration via video message.  Our keynote speaker was Sam Pitroda who shared his thoughts about “The Future of Asia Pacific Telecommunications and IT Industry.”

  • The Honorable Hong Lei, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China - The Honorable Hong Lei has become Consul General of the People’s Republic of China after serving as Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Deputy Director General, Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.  Consul General Hong will join us by video.

  • Sam Pitroda has 50 years of experience in the information and communications technology industry and is considered the “Father of the Indian Telecom Revolution.”  He served as Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation and is the Founding Chairman of five non-profit organizations including the India Food Bank.  He holds 20 honorary PhD’s and close to 100 worldwide patents.
